The Kano State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (KSCHMA) has announced plans to enrol 6,000 vulnerable persons living with Tuberculosis (TB) and Leprosy into the Kano State Contributory Healthcare Scheme as part of ongoing efforts to expand access to quality, affordable healthcare services across Kano State.
The Executive Secretary of KSCHMA, Dr. Rahila Aliyu Muktar, disclosed this today, Tuesday, 21 July 2026, while addressing the 44 Local Government Area TB and Leprosy Supervisors during a strategic engagement held at Ni’ima Guest Palace, Kano.
Dr. Rahila said the initiative is in line with the healthcare transformation agenda of the Kano State Government under the leadership of His Excellency, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, whose administration remains committed to ensuring that vulnerable citizens have unhindered access to quality healthcare through sustainable health financing.
She explained that the enrolment programme is designed to eliminate financial barriers to healthcare for persons affected by TB and leprosy, enabling them to receive comprehensive healthcare services through KSCHMA’s network of accredited healthcare providers.
According to the Executive Secretary, the partnership between KSCHMA and the State TB and Leprosy Control Programme represents a significant step towards improving disease control, strengthening case management, reducing catastrophic health expenditures, and enhancing the overall well-being of vulnerable populations.
Dr. Rahila urged the 44 Local Government TB and Leprosy Supervisors to intensify community mobilisation, ensure accurate identification of eligible beneficiaries, and provide the necessary technical support for the successful implementation of the enrolment exercise across the state.
She reaffirmed KSCHMA’s unwavering commitment to achieving Universal Health Coverage through strategic collaborations, innovative health financing mechanisms, and inclusive healthcare interventions that leave no one behind.
The meeting featured technical discussions on beneficiary identification, enrolment modalities, implementation strategies, and the critical roles of field officers in ensuring the successful rollout of the programme.
The planned enrolment of 6,000 vulnerable TB and leprosy patients underscores KSCHMA’s dedication to advancing the Kano First Agenda, strengthening the state’s healthcare system, and improving the quality of life of vulnerable residents through equitable and sustainable access to healthcare services.
