The Kano State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (KSCHMA), in collaboration with the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI), has strengthened its partnership with traditional leaders through a high-level advocacy engagement aimed at accelerating the enrolment of vulnerable persons into the Kano State Contributory Healthcare Scheme.
The one-day engagement brought together District Heads from across Kano State to deepen collaboration on the implementation of the KSCHMA Vulnerable Population Programme (VPP) and reinforce the role of the traditional institution in achieving Universal Health Coverage.
Representing the Executive Secretary of KSCHMA, Dr. Rahila Aliyu Muktar, the Director of Administration, Hajiya Amina Sani Usman, reaffirmed the Agency’s commitment to working closely with traditional institutions as trusted partners in advancing equitable healthcare access. She noted that the success of the Scheme depends largely on sustained grassroots mobilisation, community ownership and strategic stakeholder engagement.
The programme featured expert presentations by KSCHMA, the Kano State Primary Health Care Management Board (SPHCMB) and CHAI on the achievements of the Vulnerable Population Programme, healthcare financing and community-based enrolment strategies. Participants also engaged in a robust panel discussion, where traditional leaders, development partners and healthcare experts examined barriers to healthcare access and jointly identified practical, community-driven approaches for expanding enrolment and improving service utilisation across the State.
The engagement concluded with a renewed commitment by KSCHMA, CHAI and the traditional institution to strengthen collaboration, promote public awareness and ensure that vulnerable residents across Kano State benefit from quality and affordable healthcare under the Kano State Contributory Healthcare Scheme.
The initiative aligns with the healthcare transformation agenda of the administration of His Excellency, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, reaffirming KSCHMA’s resolve to leave no vulnerable resident behind in accessing essential healthcare services.
