The Kano State Government has taken a significant step towards sustaining Task Shifting and Task Sharing (TSTS) interventions with the close-out of the TSTS investment and transition-to-state-ownership programme, held on Thursday, 15 October 2026, at Amani Event Centre, Kano. The event, themed “From Policy to Practice to Sustainability: TSTS Policy Dissemination, Investment Closeout and Transition to State Ownership,” brought together government officials, development partners and health stakeholders to consolidate implementation gains and advance long-term sustainability.
The TSTS initiative was implemented with support from Pathfinder International and #Impact Catalysts, whose contributions helped lay the foundation for the gains achieved. The Honourable Commissioner for Health, Dr Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, delivered the opening remarks and formally declared the programme open, underscoring the importance of sustaining the initiative beyond the investment period.
In a key technical session, the Director-General of the Kano State Primary Health Care Management Board, Professor Salisu Ahmad Professor Salisu Ahmed Ibrahim, presented the Kano State TSTS Sustainability and Transition Plan, outlining the framework for institutionalising and sustaining the initiative under state ownership. The Commissioner also disseminated the Kano State TSTS Policy and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), reinforcing the policy foundation for continued implementation.
A major highlight was the formal handover of TSTS legacy products and the transfer of responsibility for sustaining the initiative to KSPHCMB. The programme also featured a panel discussion on scaling up and institutionalising TSTS beyond donor support, presentations on implementation achievements and frontline experiences, and an awards ceremony recognising stakeholder contributions. The transition positions KSPHCMB to lead efforts to preserve the gains achieved and embed TSTS within Kano State’s primary healthcare system for improved service delivery.
