In a significant move to enhance governance efficiency and service delivery, the Jigawa State Information Communication Technology and Digital Economy (JISITDEA), in collaboration with UNESCO, organized a capacity-building workshop focused on Artificial Intelligence (AI) literacy for civil servants in Jigawa State.
The training gathered officials from the office of the Head of the Civil Service and various ministries, departments and agencies aiming to equip participants with essential Artificial Intelligence skills to navigate today’s rapidly evolving technological landscape.
Declaring, training open, the Jigawa State Head of the Civil Service,Alhaji Muhammad K. Dagaceri, emphasized that pursuing AI is now imperative. He noted that this training aligns with the administration’s commitment to reforming civil service operations.
Dagaceri stated that Jigawa State is currently transitioning its Human Resources Management System to an electronic format, highlighting the administration’s serious intent to modernize data handling.
He expressed that AI would complement ongoing civil service reforms and stressed the necessity for the public sector to adopt digital technologies to meet rising citizen expectations. “Governments worldwide are leveraging AI and digital tools to enhance efficiency and transparency,” he stated.
Earlier, the Director General, JISITDEA, Dr. Muhammad Hassan remarked that Jigawa State is positioning itself as an ICT-driven state. He underscored that the training is not solely about technology but also about governance reform, asserting that AI literacy is essential for building a responsive public service.
UNESCO representative Miss Nneka Okafor highlighted the importance of AI literacy for governance and national development, advocating for an inclusive approach to digital transformation. She urged participants to share their newfound knowledge to maximize institutional benefits.
