The Kano State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (KSCHMA) today received an appreciation visit from a delegation of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), led by Ms. Jemeh Pius, Assistant Director, HIV Division, USAID Country Office, Abuja.
Speaking during the visit, Ms. Jemeh Pius commended KSCHMA for its outstanding efforts in enrolling People Living With HIV (PLHIV) into the state’s health contributory scheme. She described the initiative as a significant milestone in strengthening access to quality healthcare for vulnerable populations in Kano State.
Ms. Pius also announced that the transition to a new USAID Team to oversee ongoing collaborations with KSCHMA will officially commence in July 2025. She assured the agency of continued partnership and reiterated that Kano will remain a spotlight for future USAID interventions, especially in advancing HIV care and inclusion.
She further revealed ongoing discussions around the inclusion of Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) into the KSCHMA benefits package, which aims to strengthen HIV prevention efforts by providing preventive treatment to individuals at higher risk.
In her remarks, the Executive Secretary KSCHMA, Dr. Rahila Aliyu Muktar welcomed the USAID delegation and expressed deep appreciation for the recognition and partnership. She reaffirmed KSCHMA’s commitment to ensuring equitable access to affordable healthcare for all Kano residents, particularly those most in need.
Dr. Muktar noted that the agency looks forward to working closely with the incoming USAID Team to sustain and scale current successes.
This visit marks a renewed phase of collaboration between KSCHMA and USAID, strengthening joint efforts to enhance healthcare delivery across Kano State.
