Jigawa State slammed development partners for their inaction in the fight against pneumonia in the state.

State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Salisu Mu’azu stated this while receiving donation of basic hospital equipment and instrument to primary and secondary health facilities in the state supported by the Save the Children International.

He said for many years the government had been working with donors and development partners in order to improve the healthcare quality of its citizens forgetting the monster disease (pneumonia) which is the major killer of children under five.

“We all know pneumonia is major cause of children mortality, but unfortunately all the development partners and donors forget about it, they only concentrate on malaria, HIV, tuberculosis, malnutrition and malaria forgetting the monster.

” It’s in this light the save the children International identified the gap and deployed resources to tackle the problem in Kiyawa local Government,” he said.

The commissioner, therefore, urged development partners to work together in the war against pneumonia and improve the quality of lives of the citizens in order to achieve universal healthcare coverage in the state.

“This is what we want, we need action not talking because most of the development partners are only talking no action,” the commissioner stated.

Chief of party, INSPIRING Project Dr. Adamu Isah said the support was aimed at bridging the existing gap of basic health equipment, infection prevention and control commodities and nutrition items in all the 33 primary health care in Kiyawa local government.
