SLS@60: The Making of An African Statesman

By Ibrahim Ado

Friends, admirers and family of His Highness Khalifah Muhammadu Sanusi II commemorated his sixieth birthday in style. Dinner, colloquium and launching of SDG challenge were held to honour this exceptional personality.

He is a Divine gift to our deprived society. Allah made him exceptional and we thank Him. We are happy to be associated with his success. As someone I know throughout my life of over 50 years I am always proud to be associated with him. He is the person who excelled more than anyone amongst all those I know in our generation of the various connected extended families. All the major clans of Kano are connected to Sarkin Kano Ibrahim Dabo and there’s none today like HH MSII in that cluster amongst all those born from 1950 to date.

Those who removed him from State employment in March 2020 thought it was the end of the world for him. But Allah has not decided that. They pursued their hate and destructive mission even sponsoring emissaries to stop his appointment as GRAND KHALIFAH of Tijjaniyah and Allah did not fulfill their wishes because of what he has in store for him. He is now a leader of seventy million people across the country no longer restricted to Kano. This is a favour from Allah.

How many former State employees haunted by their adversaries who have State power can assemble five serving State Governors, two representatives of serving state governors, serving Governor of the CBN, 15 Bank CEOs, the richest business people and other influential persons in one occasion apart from HH MSII.

This assembly launched him into African statesmanship like his late distant uncle Mallam Aminu Kano (the African Revolutionary). This is far beyond the provincial horizon of parochial Northern Nigerian political elite. He surpassed his target of raising $2m for HH MSII SDG Challenge to support girl child education and other noble causes in Africa. The target is now $5m. He is now an African Statesman above Emirate status. His position as UN SDG Advocate is a major boost to Nigeria’s image in the world in this very difficult period. The Federal Government needs to commend him for his statesmanship and commitment to Africa.
