ZAMFARA: GOVERNOR MATAWALLE GRANTS AMNESTY T0 150 INMATES

His Excellency, Zamfara State Executive Governor, Hon Dr Bello Mohammed MON (Matawallen Maradun)today granted amnesty to 150 inmates at the Gusau Maximum Security Prison.

The Governor granted the amnesty to the inmates during his prisons visit as part of his efforts to give opportunity to the released inmates to celebrate Sallah with their loved ones.

Those granted amnesty include 5 lifers, 5 condemned
30 convicts 60 awaiting trials 9 nursing mothers and 41with special consideration ranging from those who memorized the Holy Quran, those with deformity, the aged and those who spent more than 20 years under conviction.

Governor Matawalle urged the released persons to consider their release as an act of God.

He said that their trials and experiences should save as a lesson in life and they should use it as a source of reforming themselves to be of good conduct and behaviour.

He further urged them to consider the amnesty as a promise binding on each and everyone of them against doing anything wrong that could bring them back to the prison.

Governor Matawalle further advised them to reform and be people of good conduct in order to assist his administration in its efforts to restore total peace in the state.

The Governor also donated 5 cows,100 Bags of assorted rice, 5 Rams, Drugs and other food ingredient to the remaining inmates to celebrate the Eid-El-Kabir.

Earlier in his address the State Comptroller of Nigeria Prisons Service in the state, Alhaji Sani Adamu Potiskum informed the Governor that the prison has the capacity of accommodating 1664 inmates and currently only 649 people are in the prison.

He disclosed that there were some inmates who have spent between 15 and 25 years without trial.

Representative of the State Chief Judge, Justice Mukhtar Yushau said granting amnesty to the inmates is a prerogative power vested on the Governor which Governor Matawalle is exercised.

He called on the released inmates to make good use of the opportunity granted them by the state Governor by repenting and to be of good conduct.

The prisons visit was attended by the Secretary to the Zamfara State Government, Alhaji Bala Bello Maru, Hon Grand khadi Dahiru Mohammed Gusau, Permanent Secretary Ministry of Justice, Barr Ahmad Liman, Permanent Secretary office of the Executive Governor Alhaji Kabiru Balarabe, Heads of Security Agencies in the State and many important personalities in the State.
