In my earlier piece I mentioned the 5 Monuments namely: Panshekara Underpass, Kofar Ruwa Underpass, Murtala Muhammed Flyover, Dangi Underpass and Kwari Flyover of His Excellency Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje that can buy him a Second Term ticket as Great Governor of Kano State.
Looking at the Health Sector, Ganduje has achieved tremendously in terms of healthcare delivery; recently Kano State won sum of $8,176,000 from Federal Government as a reward for the outstanding performance. In his inaugural address on May 29, 2015, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje said: “The APC Administration will focus on preventive approach to health care delivery system. This approach is mainly to reduce the prevalence of common killer diseases such as tuberculosis HIV/AIDS, Polio, Malaria and dysentery to mention a few. The programme of routine immunization will be given top priority to protect our children from preventable diseases.”
True to his words, the far-sighted and amiable Governor has lived upto expectations in recording numerous achievements, which include the following to mentioned just a few:
1. Completion of 120 bedded Isiyaku Rabiu Paediatric Hospital at Zoo road
2. Renovation of A ward Male MMSH in August 2015
3. Completion of Intensive Care Unit (ICU), MMSH
4. Completion of renovation work at Sir Muhammad Sunusi Specialist Hospital,
Yankaba
5. Renovation of maternity unit of Murtala Muhd Specialist Hospital (MMSH) in
August 2015
6. Completion Muhammadu Buhari General Hospital

7. Upgrade of MMSH, the biggest hospital in West Africa to commence soon. Since
its establishment in 1926, MMSH has never received total upgrade.
8. Establishment of deafness screening & treatment centre in Kano State.
9. Upgrade of Dawakin Tofa cottage hospital to General hospital: in progress
10. Renovation and expansion of dialysis center at Muhd Abdullahi Wase
Specialist Hospital (MAWSH), Kano
11. Procurement & Installation of new Reverse Osmosis machine at the
dialysis unit at MAWSH, Kano
12. Renovation of Pharmacy unit at MAWSH, Kano
13. Renovation & upgrade of laboratory at Infectious Diseases Hospital
(IDH), Kano
14. Construction of a multi-million naira dry store at Primary Health Care
Management Board Headquarter
15. Renovation of Doctors staff quarters at Kawo
16. Renovation of staff quarters at Giginyu
17. Renovation of Gani and Rimi PHCs in Sumaila LGA (include employment of staff
+ provision of equipment) in collaboration with Lighthouse Foundation.

collaboration Staff of CBN, Kano State Branch
19. Renovation of over 109 HFs including Gen. Hospitals, Cottage Hospitals,
PHCs and medical stores in collaboration with MNCH2
20. Built of 11 PHCs in collaboration with Dangote Foundation: Staff have
already been posted.
21. Construction of Mariya Sunusi Ultra-Modern Medical Center at MMSH (theatre
complex & Diagnostic center) worth N7 Billion by Dangote Foundation
22. Construction of 2 wards (10 bedded each) for males and females and 6
amenity rooms (3 males & 3 females) at Abubakar Imam Urology Center (AUIC)
by a philanthropist
23. Procurement of medical & dental
equipment/consumables by KNSG worth over N110 million by KNSG; distributed to
the facilities by His Excellency the Executive Governor Dr Abdullahi Umar

which takes 8 – 10 weeks), this procedure has never been carried out in MMSH
since its establishment
32. Purchase of 1NO. bus (model F TOYOTA) for dept of Medical services,
Ministry of Health, for effective monitoring & supervision
33. Donation of equipment by Rotary international (USS machines,
sphygmomanometers, C/S sets, ambu bags, etc)
34. Procurement of medical equipment & consumables worth over N170 Million
in collaboration with MNCH2: to be distributed to 136 Primary & Secondary
Health Facilities across the State in May 2016
35. Donation of medical equipment & consumables worth over N6 million by
Talba and Matawallen Kano family in recognition of good policies of KNSG in the
health care sector
36. Expansion of DRF programme where drugs worth more than N6m were distributed
to 44 health facilities in 44 LGAs to make quality drugs available at an
affordable price, to reduce circulation of fake drugs

the state in collaboration with Turkish international foundation

61. Free eye care programme conducted in Sheik Jidda Hospital between 8-15 Oct
2015 where 400 persons were operated for cataract, 800 glasses distributed and
over 1000 benefitted from drugs. State Govt provided the venue, generator,
diesel and supervision
62. Conduct of free Cataract and trachoma lid surgeries to over 6000 patients
in Kano in collaboration with HANDS- An NGO: Currently on going (Dec 2015)
63. Purchase of 88 No. Tricycle ambulances to be
distributed to 44 LGAs across the State to ease transport of pregnant women
from hard-to-reach communities to health facilities (under the ministry for
Local Government)
64. Launching of 70 No. Tricycle ambulances provided by CHAi as a support to
State Government + Launching & distribution of 10 additional tricycle

70. Sponsorship of heart surgery for 3 pediatric patients with congenital heart disease by the KNSG in collaboration with United States of America based organization named Hospitals for Humanity
71. Screening of 146 deaf persons (adults/children) to
identify those that could benefit from hearing aids and cochlear implants
72. Commencement of treatment for screened persons with deafness (Government
approval obtained, preparation in progress)
73. Strengthening RI in the state: manpower development,
effective supervision, etc
74. Medical outreach out-reach programme during which RI services, ANC,
screening for hypertension & Diabetes mellitus, treatment of common
ailments and injuries, nutritional assessment, health talks, etc are delivered
75. Volunteer Community Mobilizers (VCMs) convention held on 05/04/16 to
sensitize the public on the important work of VCMs and to recognize/award outstanding
VCMs
76. Supply & installation of GeneXpert machines at Ahmadiya & Gwarzo General Hospitals in collaboration with KNCV

where more than N180 million is being committed by EU-SIGN for purchase of
SDDs, motor-bikes, hilux vehicles, renovation/construction of cold stores and
PHCs in the State. Work has already commenced.
