A chieftain of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi State, Hamidu Sa’idu Ghani has expressed fear that the crises rocking the party in the state may lead to loss of many elective seats being occupied by its members at both state and national levels.
Ghani, who contested for Bauchi federal constituency House of Representatives seat in 2015 on the platform of the APC said that what transpired during the last wards, local governments and state congresses as well as the primaries have severely weakened the party.
According to him, as the opposition conducted their primaries with less rancour and acrimony, the APC leadership chose to select mediocre individuals as candidates against more deserving and politically strong members who contested for tickets.
He said that, the actions and inactions of the APC leadership and Governor Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar has undermined the party and alienated most of its loyal members.
“I am sure this will affect the electoral fortunes of the party. I am telling you, many APC members will rather vote for a stronger opposition candidate than vote for any imposed candidate. People are not fools to accept the daylight robbery presented as results of nonexistent primary election.
“Bauchi has a history of voting for President Muhammadu Buhari and they will vote for him anytime. But, mark my words, the President may not get the number of votes he had been getting in the past. People are very angry about what happened and they will rather not vote than vote for an imposed candidate, “he added.
The APC chieftain also noted that, the poor performance of APC administration in the state had already taken a toll on its chances of being reelected and that the crises from congresses and primaries have further confounded the situation.
He therefore called on the leadership of the party to take appropriate measures to salvage the situation.
