Governor Bello reinstates sacked commissioners, others after an hour

Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State on Sunday ordered the reinstatement of state commissioners and council administrators barely an hour after announcing the termination of their appointments.

Governor Bello, after the discovery of the cache of imported military light weapons allegedly traced to his government, had in the early hours of Sunday directed all LGA Administrators to hand over all property in their possession to the DLGs and the Commissioners to hand over to the Permanent Secretaries of their ministries.

But shortly after, the governor, in a most dramatic manner, urged the administrators of the 21 LGAs and commissioners to revert to their offices and ensure that they rejig the policy of the government to meet the yearnings the people.

The dissolution of the Executive Council which has elicited tension in the political landscape of the state was announced by the governor before he reversed himself.

The governor who arrived Lokoja, the state capital, on Sunday, from Abuja, was expected to dissolve his cabinet last Saturday.

However, during Sunday meeting at Glass House, Lokoja, the governor formally sacked his 15 Commissioners and the 21 Local Government Administrators.

The governor also directed that all affected officials were to Summit the Keys of their official vehicles to the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Mrs Folashade Arike.

However, less than 30 minutes later, the governor reversed his decision to sack his cabinet and the 21 local government administrators.

He said all members would continue to work with him as he directed them to maintain the status quo, even as he announced the return to office for all commissioners and administrators just before the end of the meeting.

The governor also said he demanded better performance and better relationship between the appointees and the people of the state.

Meanwhile, the Director-General, Media and Publicity, to the governor, Mr. Kingsley Fanwo, in a chat with newsmen, said: “The governor has reversed himself on the directive to sack his appointees.”
