His Excellency, Zamfara State Executive Governor Hon Dr. Bello Mohammed MON (Matawallen Maradun, Barden Hausa) has flagged off the construction of 3 Ruga Settlements at Ranji, Sakida grazing reserve area of Maradun local Government area of the State.
The foundation laying ceremony was performed by the Sokoto State Governor, Hon Aminu Waziri Tambuwal.
Governor Bello Matawalle said the Ruga project is aimed at transforming the way of life of fulani communities in tune with modern realities and to bring an end to the perennial clashes of grazing land, watering points and cattle routes.
The Barden Hausa further said that in modern days, efforts are being made all over the world to transform the system of cattle rearing and production from nomadic to sedentary.
He added that apart from transforming the life of fulanis, the project is tied to broader issues of Security, ensuring harmonious coexistence and solidarity among people of the State especially farmers and herders.
He said when completed, the Ruga system will bring an end to the destruction of rural economy and scaring away of potential investors in the State.
He further explained that the current peace being enjoyed in the State is as a result of dialogue and reconciliation initiated by his administration and the tremendous success achieved.
Governor Bello also disclosed that the three pilots Ruga settlements will be constructed at the cost of N2.8 Billion each and will be stocked with State of the earth facilities covering 100 hectares of land.
Laying the foundation, Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal commended the foresight of the Zamfara State Governor and urged him to maintain the tempo.
He also said the Ruga initiative will boost the economic status of the state and the Northern region as well as enhance the Security situation.
The ground breaking event of the Ruga settlement was attended by the State Deputy Governor, Barr Mahdi Aliyu Gusau, Speaker Zamfara State House of Assembly, Honourable Nasiru Maazu Magarya, Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Bala Bello Maru, Chief of Staff Government House, Col Bala Mande rtd, traditional rulers, politicians, civil servants, fulani groups and many Security personnel.
