The House of Representatives has ordered chief executives of major telecommunications companies to appear before its Ad Hoc Committee investigating poor network services within seven days.
The directive was issued on Wednesday during a public hearing in Abuja, after telcos failed to honour earlier invitations.
The committee, chaired by Olumide Osoba (APC, Ogun), set October 28, 2026, as the deadline for compliance.
Lawmakers adopted motions sponsored by Reps. Sunday Umeha and Afam Ogene, mandating the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to ensure all affected operators attend the hearing at the National Assembly Complex.
The companies are also required to submit relevant documents explaining the persistent decline in service quality.
The committee warned that any chief executive who fails to appear could face an arrest warrant.
Osoba stressed that telecommunications services are now critical to Nigeria’s economy, powering not just calls and internet access but also financial transactions, point-of-sale operations, and business activities.
“The growing dependence of businesses, financial transactions and other essential services on telecommunications networks makes persistent service disruptions a matter of serious national concern,” Osoba said.
