NORTHERN NIGERIAN WRITERS SUMMIT MOURNS ELDER LABO YARI

The Northern Nigerian Writers Summit received with shock and grief the sad news of the demise of one of Nigeria’s preeminent authors and elder statesman, Alhaji Labo Yari on Saturday, 18th March, 2023 at the age of 81.

Born on April 14th, 1942 in Katsina, Northern Nigeria, Yari, a father to six siblings, passed on at the Federal Medical Centre, Umaru Musa University Teaching Hospital, Katsina State. Before returning to his Creator, Elder Labo Yari was one of the Founding Members of Association of Nigerian Authors, (ANA) and a Member of its Board Of Trustees.

The NNWS Family mourns the passing of one of its icons and mentors at a time he was respected and seen as a whetstone by its members.

Labo Yari authored six books all in English language. Five of his well written books were published while one is still with his publisher. His fist novel: “Climate of Corruption” was published in 1978. Among his other titles are: “A House in the Dark” (short stories), “Man of the Moment” (novel), “A Day Without Cockcrow” (short stories) and “Emir of Katsina Muhamman Dikko and His Times” (Biography). Awaiting Gozo, a novel is his only unpublished work.

The entire members of the NNWS extends heartfelt condolences to his immediate family, friends and readers across Northern Nigeria and beyond.

His was a colossal death of a true gentleman, a caring father and a doting husband revered and loved by his teeming associates and readers.

We pray to almighty Allah to forgive his shortcomings and grant him paradise. Amin.
