By Sadiq Imam

The Kano Economic Summit Committee chairman, Dr Shamsuddeen Usman, submitted the interim report of just concluded Kano – Lagos Economic and Investment Summit at the weekly Kano Executive Council meeting at Government House, yesterday.

He mentioned that, the concluded summit was centrally aimed at collaboration between the two states to leverage on capabilities of the partnering states. Emphasising that, “The Summit focused on governance, power, infrastructure, security, tourism, agriculture value chain, ease of doing business among others.”

Dr Usman’s urges that the committee is supporting a proposed youth summit, which would engage between 500 to 1,000 young men and women from across all the 44 local governments area councils of the state, in which they would be left on their own to organise it and define their terms of reference.

Supporting the summit Ganduje said “We are absolutely behind the proposed youth summit. We will always support it. We are behind it.” He maintained that, his government would always come in for genuine strengthening of the finest idea, as he puts it.

But urged that all those who would be involved in the summit should not be politically partisan, insisting that, ” We only need those that are not in any way, politically partisan. It goes beyond politics amd should be maintained as such.”

He makes it clear that the major problem of youth was unemployment, which he further assures that government would do its best to see that the problem becomes history amongst Kano youth.

“As a way of addressing that problem we are providing ultra modern skills acquisition centre worth N5 Billion. And will be furnished with modern equipments and qualified trainers. With that I am assuring you that we will address unemployment issue drastically,” Ganduje says.
