At just 24 years old, Aisha Widad Yahaya has achieved a remarkable academic milestone at Bayero University Kano (BUK), becoming the first student in 35 years to graduate with First Class Honours from the Faculty of Law, according to the information provided.
Her story is even more inspiring. Aisha is a wife, mother, and the 18th of 25 children. She successfully balanced her studies with marriage and motherhood while commuting daily as a non-residential student.
Born in Ungoggo LGA, Kano State, on July 3, 2001, she began her education at Al-Azhar Primary School before attending Musa Ilyasu College.
Inspired by her late father, historian Professor Dahiru Yahaya, Aisha chose to study Law despite initially considering the sciences.
After recording a 5.0 GPA in her second year, she became convinced that First Class was within reach and remained committed to her goal.
With support from her husband, family, mentors and lecturers, she navigated the demands of academics, marriage and motherhood to achieve this remarkable feat.
Her level coordinator, Asma’u Aminu Sani, described her journey as a testament to determination and said she has inspired other young women.
Aisha’s story shows that marriage and motherhood did not stop her from pursuing academic excellence.
